Las Cosmos podcast bonus episode – The story behind Las Cosmos and its creator, Nuria Net

How do you build a community that unites the Latin diaspora in Spain? What does it mean to be Cosmolatine? In this episode, Nuria Net, an internationally renowned journalist and podcast producer, shares her story: from her childhood between Barcelona and Puerto Rico, through New York, Miami, and Barcelona, to her current life in Madrid with her hybrid family.

Nuria discusses how her passion for storytelling, her search for identity, and her desire to create a community led her to create Las Cosmos, a space that celebrates and amplifies the Latin experience in Spain.

In its first season, Las Cosmos Podcast has become the go-to podcast for Latinos in Spain. From emerging artists to pioneers in the arts, each guest has shared their unique experiences about migration, identity, and creativity, highlighting the global impact of the Latin diaspora. Special thanks to our guests:

  • Mela Pabón, known for her character Madame Mela, with whom we discussed creative blocks and her personal journey, which also gave title to her episode “The Last Horoscope of Madame Mela.”
  • LuisLo from Çantamarta, who shared his journey from playing covers in the streets of Granada to signing with Rimas, Bad Bunny’s label, and the influence of his Colombian, Venezuelan, and Spanish roots on his music.
  • Rocío Quillahuaman, who shared how her rage and identity as a migrant have fueled her success in the animation world.
  • Sofía “Flaca” Conti, who spoke for the first time about leaving her career as a DJ in a challenging music industry.
  • Gad Yola, who discussed the importance of decolonizing music, the drag scene, and the challenges of being a queer migrant child.

As part of its international projection, Las Cosmos was featured in Amazon Music’s Latin Podcast Month campaign, gaining visibility on social media, the Amazon Music app, and the iconic digital billboards in Times Square, New York.

Additionally, Las Cosmos organizes meetups and events in Spain to further strengthen the Cosmolatine community, bringing together creatives and dreamers in a space where every story finds its voice. Las Cosmos as a platform and community continues to grow, offering information, shared stories, and Cosmos experiences through our social media on Instagram and TikTok, as well as our newsletter.

Las Cosmos podcast Ep.3 – Rocío Quillahuaman

Rocío Quillahuaman is an illustrator, animator and screenwriter known for the animations she shares on her social networks (@rocioquillahuaman). She was born in Lima (Peru) but does not consider herself from Lima; she grew up in Barcelona, but does not think that she is from Barcelona. She is the author of the autobiographical book Marrón (which means ‘Brown’), which, she says, she wrote so that girls like her could grow up seeing themselves reflected in others’ stories. In her animations she makes fun of the indie art and creative industries, she questions racism, and there are plenty of screams and exploding heads.

In this episode, Rocío talks about how she came to write her story and start her animation project. She also shares how she continues to explore her identity in new artworks, and how she ended up going to Shakira’s house to give her a copy of her book.

Manifesto Las Cosmos

We are Las Cosmos

A new generation
of hybrid identities
of citizens of the world.

We are Cosmolatines.
We are from here and there.

We are our hybrid identities.
The doubt before answering ‘where are you from?’

We are our roots (the ones we leave behind, the ones we take with us).
We are every place where we have changed, every ground we have gone through.
We are our countries of origin and those that welcome us.

Always on the move
we explore
we redefine
we play
we shine alone
                 and we shine together.

We are expert creators of new lives,
those of ancestral family and chosen family,
those of video calls and long distance desires,
those of nostalgia and those of looking forward.
We are those new friends and those lifelong friends.

Cosmolatines with our accents
marked by the geography and the journey.
Cosmolatines, accomplices,
from the same corner of the world,
we recognize each other, we meet again,
authentic and different.

We are a force
of art
of dreams
of possibilities
of ambitions
of reconquering.

We are everywhere.
We come from everywhere.
We are Las Cosmos.

Translated from our original Manifiesto in Spanish.
