Las Cosmos podcast launch makes it to Times Square

October 15, 2024

They say that Madrid is the new Miami because of the number of immigrants and the current commercial investment coming from Latin America. Latin music is also undoubtedly dominant in contemporary Spanish popular culture.

In a world that is constantly changing, where cultural boundaries become blurry and identities intertwine, Las Cosmos is born: a platform dedicated to celebrating and uniting today’s Cosmolatines, those who carry their roots with them, but who are also constantly on the move, exploring and redefining their identities in today’s society.

‘We are a new generation of global citizens. We are “de aquí y de allá”, and I call this generation ‘Cosmos’’’, says Nuria Net, creator of Las Cosmos and host of the podcast by the same name. ‘There are more and more of us Latines here and in Europe, and this is the result of decades of Latin American immigration that has changed the artistic and cultural landscape in Spain.’

Las Cosmos is a space on social networks (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Substack newsletter, Telegram) where different stories of mixed identities and the roots of each Cosmolatine are celebrated. It represents not only those who have left their homes behind, but also those who have found new families and opportunities in distant lands. This platform highlights the richness of our shared histories and connects millions of people who live, work, and create in a hybrid environment.

The impact of Latin American migration in Spain is obvious. ‘Up-and-coming Latin American artists and creators are arriving in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia and changing culture globally, especially in music,’ says Nuria. Latin American record labels are opening new offices and studios in Spain, making it easier to create and export a vibrant culture that can be felt around the world. ‘We are changing society, and it is essential that we tell these stories’, she adds.

Las Cosmos is not just a platform; it’s a community. It provides a space for gathering, where meetups and events that revolve around the Cosmolatine universe are held. “Here you will find out everything that is happening in culture and arts made by Latines in Spain, but also meet emerging Cosmolatines and discover new projects and proposals’, explains Nuria.

To complete this initiative, Las Cosmos podcast is now available. In this biweekly videopodcast Nuria talks to Cosmolatines who are at the forefront of culture in Spain. “This space is for voices that break stereotypes and pave the way for future generations”, says Nuria. The first episodes feature artists such as Mela Pabón, and Luislo of the band Çantamarta. New episodes with more guests are being released every two weeks. This talk show is available on audio and video on  YouTube, Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts and iVoox.

The launch party for Las Cosmos podcast took place on October 3rd at La Parcería in Madrid and featured a special DJ set by Mela Pabón herself, our guest in the podcast’s first episode. Nuria and Las Cosmos are also part of Amazon Music’s Latin Podcast Month campaign, with featured content on social networks, Amazon Music app and digital billboards at the heart of Times Square in New York City.

Las Cosmos represents a very powerful crossroads of art, dreams and possibilities, where every accent and story intertwine to create a shared future. “Despite our differences, there is always something that unites us as Latines and as the new generation of Cosmos in Spain, Europe, and the world”, concludes Nuria.
